Author & Illustrator: Peter Carnavas
Jessica is starting school and is excited about making new friends. To ensure she makes friends she takes a box with different items inside, hoping to encourage the formation of friendships. The responses to her box and its contents vary and it is only when she stops trying to 'buy' friends that she discovers that all she needs to make friends is herself.
Even though Jessica is depicted in a wheelchair, her disability is never mentioned in the story. Instead the book portrays the excitement and also the anxiety that any young child faces when starting school and the efforts adopted to win new friends.
This book is highly recommended for young readers, as it focuses on the discovery of self-worth and also integration.
